A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND WOODROW W. BRAND, JR., CHANCELLOR OF THE 14TH CHANCERY COURT DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, Woodrow W. Brand, Jr., born September 15, 1933, served as the Mayor of the City of Houston, Mississippi, from 1961 to 1970; and
WHEREAS, he recently retired from the bench, having served as Chancellor of the 14th Chancery Court District from 1970 until December 31, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the 14th Chancery Court District is comprised of Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, Oktibbeha and Webster Counties; and
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi School of Law, the National Judicial College and the Army Command and General Staff College; and
WHEREAS, Woodrow W. Brand, Jr., is a Colonel (retired) in the Mississippi Army National Guard, being a veteran of 32 years' active and National Guard duty; and
WHEREAS, in prior years he served as a member of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Law Enforcement, the Mississippi Criminal Justice Standards Commission and the Mississippi Municipal Committee; and
WHEREAS, he is a member of The Mississippi Bar, the Mississippi National Guard Association and the American Judicature Society; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Brand has been very involved in his community, serving on the Executive Council of the Pushmataha Area Boy Scouts, is a member, deacon, Sunday School teacher and sings in the choir of the Houston First Baptist Church, and serves on the Mississippi Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; and
WHEREAS, it is the practice of this Legislature to recognize the achievements of the citizens of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend Woodrow W. Brand, Jr., for his contributions to his community, the State of Mississippi and his country by his dedicated service to the public, and congratulate him upon his retirement from the bench, and wish him the richly deserved blessings of friends and family in this new phase of his career.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chancellor and Mrs. Brand and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
